Pumped Loyalty Feature Launch

Z Energy (Leading NZ Energy Provider)
Pumped Loyalty Feature Launch

Project Overview

Role: Product Owner | Timeline: 6 months from discovery to launch | Team: Cross-functional (iOS, Android, backend, design, marketing)

The Challenge

Z Energy customers were missing out on digital experiences that matched the value of their physical Pumped card. There was a significant gap between the physical Pumped card value and digital experience, creating a need for a mobile-first loyalty experience that could drive engagement with the Pumped programme, allow seamless earning and redeeming of rewards, and support a high-profile nationwide marketing launch with precise timing coordination.

My Approach

  • Defined product requirements in close collaboration with commercial and marketing teams
  • Coordinated cross-functional squads across native mobile (iOS & Android), API/backend, design, and marketing
  • Ran comprehensive QA and regression testing with live infrastructure in staging environments
  • Implemented feature flagging strategy to enable precise go-live control aligned with national campaign
  • Delivered within hard external deadlines while maintaining native app performance expectations and App Store coordination

Outcomes

  • Successfully launched to over 400,000 active users nationwide
  • Delivered seamless earning and redeeming experience for fuel discount rewards
  • Achieved perfect timing coordination with high-impact national marketing campaign
  • Completed on-time, in-scope delivery despite hard external deadlines

Key Highlights

This project showcased the importance of cross-functional coordination and precise timing in product launches. By implementing feature flagging and working closely with marketing teams, we were able to deliver a seamless user experience that perfectly aligned with Z Energy's nationwide campaign, demonstrating how product strategy and execution can drive both user engagement and business objectives.
